WBA Gym Etiquette
by Denise Friedeborn posted 12/10/2011

It has been brought to our attention that water bottles, etc. are being left behind after games and practices. The memo below is from Ken Aries, the director of operations at Westwood Schools.

"After shaking hands with the other team and thanking the refs, we need to pick up after ourselves regardless of if we are the home or away team. This includes our in town program as well. Realizing that there is chaos at the end of the game, this is still an important item to take care of and the kids can handle it in a matter of seconds."

We need to take care of our facilities home and away so that we will be welcomed back to play again.  Thank you for your help.

Mouthguards for Basketball
by Denise Friedeborn posted 02/08/2011

STATEMENT ON USE OF MOUTH GUARDS FOR BASKETBALL

The Westwood Basketball Association strongly recommends the use of mouth guards in children playing basketball.  Mouth guards not only prevent injury to the teeth, lips, and tongue, but can also lessen the impact of falls or hits that might otherwise cause serious concussions, jaw fractures, and neck injuries.  Many sports in Massachusetts, including football, hockey, lacrosse and wrestling require the use of mouth guards.  Two sports that don’t require use of mouth guards, basketball and baseball, currently account for 50% of all oral facial injuries, most of these in the 10 to 19 year age group.  Sports related oral facial injuries are not only painful and disfiguring, but also costly.  It is estimated that the lifetime cost of a serious mouth injury could be thousands of dollars above and beyond routine dental care.

For more information on mouth guards including the different types of mouth guards available visit the Massachusetts Dental Society website at http://www.massdental.org.
